Class Information
All sessions run for one week, from 9am until 4pm and are taught by US Sailing Level 1 instructors. The first 9 sessions are designed for sailors of all experience levels. The last session, Regatta Week, is reserved for returning sailors. Any student that has taken the LWSS course before, or any student with qualifying experience (at the discretion of the Lead Instructor or Program Director) are welcomed. This course focuses on racing. Students will learn and practice more advanced sailing skills throughout the Regatta Week in preparation to participate in the Little Washington Sailing School Regatta in Washington Harbor.

Water (at least 3 16oz. bottles)
Swim suit/trunks and shirt (not cotton)
Boat shoes or sneakers (no sandals or flip flops)
A change of dry clothes

Weather
Parents should plan to bring their children to class every day regardless of the weather as instructors will still be teaching skills inside the classroom and providing other boating-related activities. In the event of a major storm, the Lead Instructor and/or the Program Director may cancel class. If bad weather arises during the day, the Lead Instructor will discontinue outdoor activities and will hold class indoors.
Location
Each day, students will come directly to the classroom at 128 South Market Street, Washington NC. Sailing shall take place off the docks in the Pamlico River right across the street from the classroom. Students will be checked in and given orientation on the first day of each session.
Spectators
The instructors encourage family and friends to watch their young sailors develop in the water. However, we do as that you do not remain in the classroom after dropping off your sailor. Please do not walk onto the docks at any point. These are busy areas, and it can get crowded. Please feel free to sit on a bench along the boardwalk, or eat at a local restaurant as you watch the boats.
Lunch
Class time will be reserved between approximately 12-1pm for students to eat lunch. Lunch is not provided. Please be sure to send your student with a packed lunch.
Last Day
On the final day of class, a brief graduation ceremony will be held at 3:45pm. Parents are invited to attend to take pictures and watch their students receive a certificate.
Advanced Sailing
Our week of Advanced Sailing (Week 10) is a STEM course for those who have already completed the introductory course offered at our School. It is perfect for ages 10-16, and based on US Sailing’s REACH curriculum. Topics such as: wind measurement, angle and power, buoyancy, simple machines found on a sailboat, and water quality, are all covered.
