Inspiring Youth on the Pamlico River

The Little Washington Sailing School is made up of dedicated sailing enthusiasts, who have created a Sailing School for the youth of the Washington, NC area. The LWSS is a youth sailing program to encourage children to experience the joy of recreational sailing along the Washington waterfront and Pamlico River. Last year over 140 students completed the program. While many of our students come from the local area, diverse parts of the country (and world!) are often represented as well.

There are two types of sailing craft used. The Optimist Pram or “Opti” for our younger age group of 9-12 and those weighing less than 100lbs — and the Vanguard 420, which is sailed by two students who are between the ages of 10-18. The two-sail vessel is used to teach beginning and advanced students how to develop their sailing skills.

We are a 501(c)3 entity and could not exist without the generosity of our sponsors at all levels. We extend our thanks to our sponsors, and all who have given financial support as well as those who support us through goods and services. Little Washington Sailing School admits student of any race, color, ethnicity or national origin.
